⚠️ Be careful when buying animals online with prepayment.
In a local Kivertsi Telegram group we saw a post from a woman who described a situation that may serve as a useful warning for others.
According to her, she found an ad selling Scottish Fold kittens, agreed to buy one and transferred ₴1,500 as a prepayment to reserve the kitten. The seller then said she was going on a business trip and insisted on full payment before the animal was handed over.
The woman offered to come in person and pay on the spot. But when it was time to collect the animal, problems began: the address given didn't check out, the seller became unreachable, and she never received the kitten.
We don't know all the circumstances and cannot claim that fraud took place — only law enforcement can establish that. Still, this story is a good reminder of how important it is to be careful when buying animals online.
What to watch out for
- Don't rush to send prepayment to strangers.
- If possible, inspect the animal in person before paying.
- Check the documents and the veterinary passport.
- Ask for up-to-date photos and videos.
- Be cautious if the seller keeps changing the terms or avoids meeting in person.
And one more important thought
While some people pay thousands for pedigree animals, hundreds of homeless cats and dogs are waiting for a family. Many are already sterilized, vaccinated and ready to give just as much love and loyalty.
