Sterilisation is the most effective and humane way to reduce the number of stray animals. Yet many myths still surround it.
Myth 1. "Let it give birth once — it's healthy"
On the contrary. Timely sterilisation significantly lowers the risk of mammary tumours, pyometra and other diseases.
Myth 2. "We'll quickly give away the puppies and kittens"
There are far fewer takers than births. Those not placed are often abandoned — and they breed too.
Myth 3. "The animal will get fat after surgery"
Weight depends on diet and activity, not on sterilisation. Animals usually become calmer and live longer.
Myth 4. "My cat doesn't go outside"
One accidental escape is enough for an uncontrolled litter.
Myth 5. "It's against nature"
What's cruel is dooming thousands of unborn animals to hunger and death on the street.
Myth 6. "It's expensive and complicated"
It's a one-time procedure that saves far more — in money and in suffering.
